Blow for Brazil! First-Choice Right-Bank Wesley Suffers Injury in Friendly, World Cup Participation in Doubt

Just one week before the start of the World Cup, Brazil suffered a heavy blow in the early hours of June 7 Beijing time. In their final warm-up match away to Egypt, starting right-back Wesley was forced to leave the pitch in pain just 16 minutes after kick-off. The sight of the player crying with his head in his hands on the bench after the match sent a shudder of concern through every Brazilian fan.
Sudden Incident: Forced off after just 16 minutes
The match took place in Cleveland, USA. Early in the game, the Roma right-back, hailed as the "new Cafu," was attempting to latch onto a long pass from Paquetá when he suddenly felt a sharp pain in his left thigh with no contact from an opponent. He immediately collapsed and signaled that he could not continue.
Brazil's medical staff rushed onto the pitch to conduct an initial assessment. Head coach Carlo Ancelotti was forced to make an early substitution, bringing on veteran Danilo for Wesley. The visibly distraught Wesley left the pitch, returned to the bench, and covered his face with a towel as he sobbed. Teammates, including Endrick, gathered around to console him. According to on-site reports, Wesley's injury appears to be in the area of his left adductor or groin muscle. The full extent of the damage will require further imaging tests to confirm.
Critical Moment: Key Player Could Miss World Cup
The 22-year-old Wesley, who has impressed for Roma this season, is currently Brazil's only recognized first-choice right-back and a vital component of Ancelotti's tactical setup. The timing of this injury is particularly cruel, as Brazil's World Cup opener against Morocco is just days away (June 13).
According to FIFA regulations, teams can make injury-related changes to their squad up to 24 hours before their first match, provided the replacement player is selected from their provisional 55-man preliminary list. If Wesley is ruled out, Vasco da Gama's Paulo Henrique or Botafogo's Vitinho could be flown in as emergency replacements. An alternative option would be for Ancelotti to use Danilo as a makeshift right-back and call up a player in another position.
At this moment, all of Brazil is praying for Wesley, anxiously awaiting the final "medical verdict."
