Ole Romeny Nears Eredivisie Return as Fortuna Sittard Move Edges Closer

Ole Romeny is reportedly on the verge of leaving Oxford United ahead of the 2026/27 season, with Fortuna Sittard emerging as his likely next destination. The Dutch top-flight club is believed to be closing in on an agreement for the Indonesia international, whose spell in English football has fallen short of expectations. Negotiations are said to be in their final stages, while a medical examination has already been arranged.
The 26-year-old forward joined Oxford United from FC Utrecht in January 2025 but struggled to establish himself during his time in England. His situation became even more difficult after Oxford United were relegated from the EFL Championship to League One at the end of the 2025/26 campaign, increasing the possibility of a move away from the club.
Reports from Dutch journalist Mounir Boualin indicate that Fortuna Sittard are confident of completing the deal soon. While the exact terms have not yet been confirmed, it remains unclear whether the transfer will be permanent or take the form of a season-long loan. An official announcement is expected once the remaining details are finalized.
If the move is completed, Romeny would reunite with the Eredivisie and share a dressing room with fellow Indonesia international Justin Hubner at Fortuna Sittard. The transfer would also mark a return to Dutch football, where Romeny previously developed before pursuing a career in England.
Although his club record at Oxford United was modest, with just one goal in 32 appearances across all competitions, Romeny has enjoyed a remarkable run with the Indonesian national team. He has scored six goals in 10 international matches, demonstrating a level of form that contrasts sharply with his club performances and offering hope that a return to the Netherlands could revive his career.
