End of an Era: Stephan El Shaarawy Set to Leave AS Roma After Memorable Decade

Stephan El Shaarawy has confirmed that he will leave AS Roma at the end of the season when his contract officially expires on June 30. The decision closes an important chapter for both the player and the club after years of loyalty and memorable performances in the Italian capital.

The experienced winger is preparing for his final appearances in a Roma shirt, including a crucial derby match against SS Lazio and the season finale against Verona. El Shaarawy is expected to depart as a free agent, ending a long relationship with the Giallorossi that made him one of the most respected figures among supporters.

El Shaarawy first joined Roma in January 2016 following a loan spell with AS Monaco. Before arriving in Rome, he had already gained recognition as one of the brightest attacking talents in Serie A during his time with AC Milan. In 2019, he briefly continued his career in China with Shanghai Shenhua before making his return to Roma in early 2021.

Across two separate spells with the club, the Italian international accumulated 346 appearances while contributing 65 goals and 50 assists. One of the defining moments of his Roma career came during the 2021/22 season under Jose Mourinho, when the team lifted the UEFA Conference League trophy, ending the club's long wait for European silverware.

Despite reported efforts from coach Gian Piero Gasperini to extend the contracts of several senior players, negotiations with El Shaarawy ultimately did not lead to a renewal. His departure now leaves Roma supporters saying goodbye to one of the club's most loyal and influential players of the modern era.
