Since taking charge of the Indonesia national football team in January 2026, John Herdman has introduced a new team culture centered on unity, discipline, and collective responsibility. The Canadian coach established two non-negotiable principles designed to strengthen relationships among players and create a stronger sense of identity within the squad.
To support this vision, Herdman formed a leadership group made up of several senior and influential players, including Jay Idzes, Rizky Ridho, Maarten Paes, Emil Audero, Calvin Verdonk, Kevin Diks, and Joey Pelupessy. The group was created to help spread the coaching staff’s message throughout the dressing room and encourage stronger communication among teammates.
The first major rule introduced by Herdman focuses on putting the national team above everything else.
