PSSI Confirms Diaspora Inclusion as Mathew Baker Set to Join Indonesia U-19 for AFF 2026

PSSI have confirmed plans to include diaspora talent in the Indonesia U-19 squad for the 2026 AFF U-19 Championship, with Mathew Baker emerging as one of the key names. The young Melbourne City player is expected to be part of the national setup as the federation continues strengthening its youth program with overseas-based players.

According to statements from PSSI Executive Committee member Arya Sinulingga, Baker is among several diaspora players being considered for selection. While the exact number of foreign-based players has not been finalized, his inclusion has been strongly indicated as part of the broader squad planning.

Head coach Nova Arianto has also emphasized the importance of building a competitive squad capable of targeting the championship title. He has outlined plans to integrate around seven diaspora players, with Baker identified as one of the standout prospects following his involvement with Indonesia's U-17 setup.

Baker, who is currently 16 years old, is still competing with the Indonesia U-17 team in the AFC U-17 Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia. After completing his duties at that level, he is expected to transition into the U-19 squad ahead of the AFF tournament later in the year.

The 2026 AFF U-19 Championship will take place in Medan, Indonesia, featuring strong regional competition in Group A. With the addition of diaspora players like Baker, Indonesia aims to strengthen its squad depth and increase its chances of winning the tournament on home soil.
