Fans Split Over FIFA World Cup 2026 Final Halftime Show Featuring Madonna, Shakira and BTS

According to a report from Daily Mail, in line with the tradition of the Super Bowl halftime show, the major artists set to perform at this summer’s FIFA World Cup final halftime show at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey will not receive any performance fees.
Earlier this week, officials confirmed that the halftime show for the World Cup final will feature Madonna, Shakira, and K-pop group BTS as headline performers.
Gianni Infantino said the initiative is intended to combine music and football on the sport’s biggest stage while also supporting charitable causes. Speaking at the Global Citizen Assembly in New York City on Thursday, he stated: “When you are in a privileged position, you should try to make a real contribution. Not everyone can become a world champion, but good education can make everyone better, and that is exactly what we stand for.”
While some fans are excited about the halftime show, many others have strongly criticized the decision, voicing their dissatisfaction across social media and in the Daily Mail’s comment section.
Some supporters questioned why organizers did not invite more popular artists from the United States, Canada, or Mexico. Others bluntly described it as the worst performance lineup in FIFA history. There were also fans who argued that halftime entertainment belongs to the Super Bowl and that football matches do not need such performances at all.
Many online users specifically criticized the artists involved. Some claimed that Madonna is well past her prime and questioned whether the World Cup even needs a halftime show. Others felt the lineup seemed forced and lacked chemistry, while some fans pointed out that Shakira had already appeared at a Super Bowl halftime show, making her inclusion feel less fresh this time around.
Madonna is currently 67 years old, while Shakira is 49.
