Three Major Problems Jose Mourinho Must Fix if He Returns to Real Madrid
Jose Mourinho is reportedly close to making a dramatic return to Real Madrid on a two-year contract. The move is expected to be finalized after the end of the current La Liga season as the club looks for stability following a turbulent campaign filled with inconsistency and growing pressure both on and off the pitch.
One of Mourinho's biggest challenges would be repairing a fractured dressing room. Tensions between several players became increasingly visible throughout the season, creating an atmosphere that damaged team harmony. Incidents involving Aurélien Tchouaméni, Federico Valverde, Antonio Rüdiger, and Álvaro Carreras highlighted the growing frustration inside the squad.
The situation reportedly became even more complicated due to disagreements involving coaching staff and key players. Vinícius Júnior was linked to tension with former coach Xabi Alonso, while Kylian Mbappé was also rumored to have questioned current coach Álvaro Arbeloa. Mourinho's reputation for controlling difficult dressing rooms is seen as one of the main reasons Madrid are considering bringing him back.
Another major concern for the club is the absence of a strong leadership figure within the squad. In previous years, players such as Sergio Ramos and Luka Modrić provided authority and emotional balance during difficult moments. Since their era faded, Madrid have struggled to find players capable of fully taking over that responsibility, especially with Dani Carvajal dealing with injuries and uncertainty surrounding his future.
Mourinho would also need to solve the tactical imbalance involving Vinícius and Mbappé in attack. Both stars are among the best players in world football, but their partnership has yet to fully click on the pitch. Their tendency to occupy similar spaces and demand attacking freedom has sometimes disrupted the team's overall structure. Finding a system that allows both forwards to shine together could become Mourinho's most important mission if he officially returns to Madrid.
