Oxford United Keep Faith in Ole Romeny While Offering Marselino Ferdinan a New Deal Amid Squad Reshuffle

The future of two Indonesian national team players at Oxford United appears to be taking clearer shape as the club prepares for the 2026/2027 League One season. Both Oxford United forwards and midfield options involving Ole Romeny and Marselino Ferdinan have been included in the latest squad retention list released after the 2025/2026 campaign.
According to the English Football League’s post-season update, Romeny remains part of Oxford United’s long-term plans. The striker, who joined the club in January 2025, is still under contract until June 2026 and is expected to continue contributing as the club rebuilds following a difficult season that ended in relegation from the Championship.
In contrast, Marselino Ferdinan’s situation shows a more active negotiation. Although his current contract also runs until mid-2026, the club has already placed him among players offered a new deal. This signals Oxford United’s intention to keep the young Indonesian midfielder despite limited playing opportunities so far.
Marselino’s time in England has been challenging, with very few appearances for the first team since his arrival in 2024. A loan spell to AS Trenčín was meant to provide more minutes, but injuries disrupted his progress and restricted his impact across both league and cup competitions in Slovakia.
As Oxford United prepares for life in League One, the contrasting situations of both players highlight different stages in their development. Romeny is viewed as a steady part of the squad’s attacking structure, while Marselino remains a long-term investment whose growth is still being carefully managed as he continues adapting to European football.
