Macarthur FC Blocks Luke Vickery’s Indonesia Call-Up Ahead of ASEAN Hyundai Cup 2026

Luke Vickery will not represent Indonesia at the 2026 ASEAN Hyundai Cup after Macarthur FC decided not to release the striker for the regional tournament. The Australian club exercised its right to keep the player because the competition falls outside FIFA’s official international calendar.

The tournament, scheduled from July 24 to August 26, is not recognized as a FIFA international window. As a result, clubs are under no obligation to make their players available for national team duty, leaving Indonesia without one of its promising attacking options.

Indonesia head coach John Herdman confirmed that several overseas clubs had declined to release their players for the competition. While acknowledging the disappointment, he accepted that the clubs were acting within FIFA regulations and respected their decisions.

Despite Vickery’s absence, Indonesia will still field a competitive squad featuring several naturalized players who compete in the domestic league. The preliminary roster also includes experienced internationals such as Thom Haye, Sandy Walsh, Ragnar Oratmangoen, Jordi Amat, Marc Klok, Shayne Pattynama, Ivar Jenner, Rafael Struick, Eliano Reijnders, Dion Markx, and Justin Hubner.

Vickery is expected to become available later in the year for the FIFA ASEAN Cup, which is scheduled during an official FIFA international window from September 21 to October 6, 2026. That tournament should also allow Indonesia to recall several Europe-based stars, including Jay Idzes, Maarten Paes, Kevin Diks, and Calvin Verdonk, giving the national team a much stronger squad.
