Manchester United Could Consider Selling Lisandro Martínez After Injury Concerns

According to journalist Andy Mitten, Manchester United could consider selling Lisandro Martínez if they receive a significant offer for the Argentine defender.

Since joining Manchester United, Martínez has become a fan favourite among Red Devils supporters. When fully fit, his outstanding performances have earned him widespread praise at Old Trafford. However, concerns have continued to grow over his frequent injury problems and inability to maintain consistent availability.

Mitten stated that if a club submits a major bid for the Argentina international, Manchester United would seriously consider a potential sale. The club wants its key players to be reliable options who can contribute consistently throughout the season.

“The club already has some concerns about him. If a team makes a substantial offer, Manchester United would definitely have to consider it carefully. His wages are far from the highest among defenders, but when he is available, he can be among the very best centre-backs in the world. The problem is that he simply does not play enough. Manchester United want players who cost a significant amount of money to provide consistent value on the pitch, but he has repeatedly been sidelined by injuries. If this latest setback keeps him out for an extended period, the consequences could be obvious,” Mitten said.

The journalist also questioned whether Manchester United would be willing to offer Martínez a new contract with a significant pay rise given his long-term injury concerns.

“No one doubts his ability when he is fit. His technical qualities are unique, and he won over a large group of loyal supporters during his first season at the club. However, he is likely to demand a substantial salary increase if he signs a new deal. The key question is whether the club should meet those demands. Nobody can predict what his long-term physical condition will be like. Only when he is on the pitch can you truly know what he is capable of delivering,” Mitten added.
