Barcelona Defender Pau Cubarsí Becomes Third Centre-Back in History to Reach €100 Million Market Value

Transfermarkt has updated its player market values, with Spanish champion and Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsí now valued at €100 million. He has become only the third centre-back in football history to reach a market value of €100 million.
The 19-year-old Cubarsí impressed throughout the 2026 World Cup. Spain’s defence, led by the young Barcelona defender, conceded just one goal during the entire tournament. After the final, Cubarsí was named the Best Young Player of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
On July 22, 2026, Transfermarkt updated its player valuations, with Cubarsí’s market value rising from €80 million to €100 million.
In football history, only two other centre-backs had previously reached a market value of €100 million. On September 12, 2019, Liverpool’s Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk reached the €100 million mark. Then, on June 3, 2026, Arsenal’s French centre-back William Saliba also reached a valuation of €100 million.
Currently, the 25-year-old Saliba remains valued at €100 million, while the 35-year-old Van Dijk’s market value has dropped to €15 million.
