Justin Hubner Set to Miss Indonesia’s AFF Cup 2026 Campaign After Fortuna Sittard Refuses Release

Indonesia may have to compete in the 2026 AFF Cup without one of its most important defenders, Justin Hubner. Despite being named in the national team squad for the regional tournament, recent reports indicate that the center-back is unlikely to join the Garuda squad due to club commitments.
Hubner is currently taking part in Fortuna Sittard’s pre-season preparations as the Dutch club gears up for the 2026/27 campaign. With the team holding an intensive training camp in France, the club reportedly considers the Indonesian international a key figure in its plans ahead of the new Eredivisie season.
According to reports from the Netherlands, Fortuna Sittard has decided not to release Hubner for the AFF Cup. The club believes his presence is essential during pre-season, especially with the Dutch league scheduled to begin on August 8, leaving little room for player absences.
The club is also in a favorable position to keep Hubner because the AFF Cup is not included in FIFA’s official international match calendar. As a result, clubs are not obligated to release players for the competition, allowing Fortuna Sittard to prioritize its domestic preparations.
If Hubner is officially ruled out, Indonesia will lose one of its most reliable defensive players for the tournament. The situation presents another challenge for the national team as it aims to make a strong impression in the 2026 AFF Cup despite the absence of several overseas-based players.
