The Italian champions secured a profitable deal for the Spanish defender but were left searching for a new solution for the Danish midfielder after negotiations in Germany unexpectedly broke down.

Gutierrez has officially joined Bayer Leverkusen in a transfer worth €30 million, delivering a healthy financial return for Napoli. The 25-year-old left-back arrived from Girona only a year ago for €18 million and made 36 appearances in all competitions during his lone season in Naples. In contrast, Lindstrom's proposed transfer to Schalke ended without an agreement despite the player traveling to Germany for a medical examination.
