Tristan Gooijer Leaves Ajax for Lommel SK, Opening a New Door for Indonesia

Tristan Gooijer has officially left Ajax Amsterdam and is set to continue his career with Belgian second-tier club Lommel SK. The 21-year-old defender, who has Maluku heritage, reportedly moved in a deal worth €500,000, or around Rp9.5 billion. His departure comes after he was no longer considered part of Ajax’s plans for the upcoming season.
The transfer is viewed as an important step for Gooijer, particularly as he looks for consistent playing time at senior level. Rather than remaining on the fringes of Ajax’s first-team plans, the move to Lommel could provide him with a greater opportunity to develop through regular competitive appearances. Ajax have also arranged a loan move for young forward Don-Angelo Konadu to the same Belgian club.
Gooijer’s move has also attracted attention from Indonesia because of his family background. The defender has previously been regarded as one of the players with Indonesian heritage who could potentially strengthen the national team in the future. Regular football in Belgium could help him gain valuable experience and demonstrate his development at a professional level.
Another factor that could benefit Indonesia is the presence of Joey Pelupessy at Lommel SK. The experienced midfielder is already part of the Indonesia national team setup and has an established role at the Belgian club. Having two players with Maluku roots in the same dressing room could create a natural connection between Gooijer and the Indonesian football environment.
For the Garuda squad, Gooijer’s transfer therefore represents more than just a change of club. If he can establish himself at Lommel and continue progressing, his eligibility and potential commitment to Indonesia could become an increasingly interesting topic. His next chapter in Belgium may ultimately play an important role in determining whether he becomes a future option for the Indonesian national team.
