Mehdi Taremi Chooses Al Wasl Move Instead of Genoa

Mehdi Taremi has officially completed a move to Al Wasl in the United Arab Emirates, ending speculation that the Iranian striker could return to Serie A with Genoa. His agent, Federico Pastorello, confirmed the transfer as Taremi begins a new chapter after leaving Olympiakos.

The 33-year-old forward arrives at Al Wasl after a productive spell with Olympiakos, where he recorded 16 goals and six assists last season. His attacking output has made him an experienced addition for the UAE club, which will hope to benefit from his ability in front of goal.

Taremi previously spent a season with Inter Milan after joining the Italian giants on a free transfer from Porto in 2024. However, his time at San Siro proved difficult as he struggled to establish himself ahead of Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram, making 43 appearances across all competitions while scoring three goals and providing nine assists.

Inter eventually allowed Taremi to leave for Olympiakos in a deal reportedly worth around €2.5 million. Before moving to Italy, he enjoyed an impressive four-year spell at Porto, scoring 91 goals in 182 appearances and helping the Portuguese side win two Primeira Liga titles.

A return to Italy had appeared possible when Genoa were linked with the striker, but the proposed move failed to materialize. Taremi will instead continue his career in the UAE with Al Wasl, bringing considerable international and European experience to his new club as he prepares for a fresh challenge.
