Indonesia U-20 Set for Pot 3 in 2027 Asian Cup Draw
Indonesia U-20 are expected to be placed in Pot 3 for the 2027 AFC U-20 Asian Cup draw, although the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has yet to confirm the official pot allocation. The Garuda Muda secured their place in the tournament after finishing top of Group H in the qualification round with seven points from two wins and one draw. Their qualification also marks a third consecutive appearance in the competition.
Despite their return to the tournament, Indonesia U-20 will be looking to improve on their recent record. The team failed to advance beyond the group stage in the previous two editions, making the 2027 tournament an important opportunity to take another step forward. Their position in the draw, however, is expected to be determined not only by their latest qualifying campaign but also by their performance at the 2025 edition.
Based on the current projection, Indonesia U-20 could be joined in Pot 3 by Thailand, Tajikistan and Oman. Pot 1 is expected to feature hosts China alongside South Korea, Japan and Saudi Arabia, while defending champions Uzbekistan could be placed in Pot 2 with Iraq, Iran and Jordan. India, North Korea, Malaysia and Lebanon are projected to occupy Pot 4.
If the predicted allocation is close to the official AFC arrangement, Indonesia could face one of the strongest teams from Pot 1 in the group stage. Potential opponents include China, South Korea, Japan and Saudi Arabia, while the Garuda Muda would avoid fellow Pot 3 teams Thailand, Tajikistan and Oman. The final composition will depend on the official seeding announcement and draw conducted by the AFC.
The 2027 AFC U-20 Asian Cup is scheduled to take place in China from March 24 to April 10, 2027. Four venues across Xihu, Shangcheng, Linping and Xiaoshan are set to host the tournament. For Indonesia U-20, reaching the knockout stage will be a major target after two consecutive group-stage exits, and their seeding could play an important role in determining the difficulty of their path.
