Barcelona to Vote on €300M Loan to Complete Spotify Camp Nou Renovation

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona will hold a members’ representative assembly on September 19, where a €300 million loan will be put to a vote. The financing is intended to complete all remaining work on the new Spotify Camp Nou stadium.

The construction company responsible for the project, Limak, requires the additional funds to complete the final stages of this complex stadium redevelopment. Once the remaining work is finished, the new Spotify Camp Nou will be considered fully completed.

Barcelona’s need for additional financing is mainly due to two factors: unforeseen circumstances and improvements made to the stadium project.

The stadium redevelopment has been affected by various factors that have pushed costs above the original estimates. These include the geopolitical situation, labour shortages, the implementation of new accessibility regulations, and updates to La Liga’s audiovisual requirements that affect broadcasting platforms.

In addition, the Spanish company responsible for supplying steel entered bankruptcy proceedings. The company had provided around one-third of the steel required for the structure. The project, which was initially expected to involve 88 construction interventions, eventually expanded to around 3,200 interventions.

The extension of the construction timeline has also increased indirect costs. More stages were required to obtain the necessary permits, while temporary construction plans had to be adjusted.

Beyond the original plans, the project has also added a series of improvements and additional works. These include the construction of parking areas in the side sections of the stadium and a revision of the commercial hospitality plan with the involvement of ARAMARK.

The number of VIP seats has been increased, while the number of private boxes has been reduced. Improvements have also been made to access routes for the presidential box.

The overall scope of construction has also expanded, particularly with an increase in the space allocated for the club museum. The project will introduce 5G technology, add more commercial areas around the stadium, and distribute these spaces across four different buildings.

Furthermore, the inclination of the third-tier stands will be adjusted to improve spectators’ viewing angles.

Other upgrades include a new stadium guidance system through digital screens, improved sound insulation for the air-conditioning equipment, and the installation of carbon dioxide fire suppression systems in technical areas.
