Serie A Clubs Spend Over €1 Billion as Milan and Juventus Lead the Way

Serie A clubs have enjoyed one of their biggest transfer windows in recent years, with total spending surpassing €1 billion during the summer. The figure ranks second among Europe’s major leagues, behind the Premier League, which approached the €4 billion mark, while Serie A clubs spent more than their counterparts in Germany, Spain, and France.

AC Milan and Juventus were at the centre of the spending surge as both clubs invested heavily in reshaping their squads. Milan’s move for Goncalo Ramos and Juventus’ broader rebuilding project were among the most notable developments during a busy period for the Italian top flight.

Despite assumptions surrounding the role of gambling-related sponsorships, the biggest spending clubs were not primarily financed by such partnerships. Milan’s transfer activity was supported by commercial agreements with Emirates, MSC Cruises, and Bitpanda, while Juventus continued their summer project with Jeep as their principal sponsor.

Inter, despite receiving significant revenue from an entertainment-related partnership, adopted a comparatively moderate approach in the transfer market. The contrast highlights how commercial income remains uneven across Serie A, with clubs operating under very different financial conditions and sponsorship structures.

The spending surge also comes against the backdrop of major changes among several leading Italian clubs. Napoli have appointed Max Allegri after finishing second last season under Antonio Conte, while Milan and Juventus are attempting to rebuild after missing out on Champions League qualification, with Como’s unexpected fourth-place finish adding another layer to the changing competitive landscape.
