Juventus Face Sanctions After Supporters Disrupt Sandro Mazzola Tribute

Juventus could face disciplinary action after a section of their supporters disrupted a minute of silence held in memory of Italian and Inter legend Sandro Mazzola. Mazzola, widely regarded as one of Italy’s most iconic footballers, died at the age of 83, prompting tributes across Italian football before Serie A fixtures.

The tribute took place before Juventus’ home meeting with Atalanta at the Allianz Stadium, with players and supporters expected to observe a moment of silence in Mazzola’s honour. However, some fans in the Curva Sud began singing songs dedicated to famous Juventus figures, including Gaetano Scirea, Andrea Fortunato and Gianni Agnelli, while other supporters attempted to restore the solemn atmosphere through applause.

The incident quickly attracted criticism and prompted Juventus to publicly address the behaviour of the supporters involved. The club stressed the importance of respecting commemorative moments regardless of historic rivalries, making clear that competition between clubs should not interfere with paying tribute to figures who have contributed significantly to Italian football.

According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus could be handed a fine of around €50,000, while a temporary closure of the Curva Sud is also among the possible disciplinary measures. No final decision has been announced, however, and it remains uncertain whether the entire section could be closed for Juventus’ next home fixture against Lazio in October.

The episode adds another issue for Juventus to deal with as attention turns to the response from the Italian Football Federation. A FIGC report is expected to provide greater clarity on the possible consequences, while head coach Luciano Spalletti and the club await the outcome of the disciplinary process.
