Asia Cup 2027 Draw: Indonesia Faces a Tough Path from Pot 4

Indonesia national football team head into the 2027 AFC Asian Cup draw with a difficult starting point after being placed in Pot 4. The ceremony, scheduled for early May in Saudi Arabia, sets the stage for what could be a challenging group phase for the Garuda squad.
With 23 of 24 teams already confirmed, the final slot will be decided between Lebanon and Yemen before the draw takes shape. The seeding is based on FIFA rankings as of April 2026, meaning Indonesia’s lower position places them among the underdogs from the outset.
The draw will divide teams into four pots of six, ensuring each group contains one team from each pot. This structure is designed to balance competition, though it also increases the likelihood that lower-ranked teams like Indonesia will face stronger opponents early on.
Being in Pot 4 raises the possibility of Indonesia landing in a so-called “group of death,” potentially alongside top sides such as Japan, Iran, or South Korea from Pot 1. Additional challenges could come from strong mid-tier teams like Iraq or the United Arab Emirates, while regional clashes against Southeast Asian rivals like Thailand or Vietnam also remain possible.
The tournament itself will run from early January to early February 2027 across multiple cities in Saudi Arabia, with the host nation guaranteed a prominent position in the opening match. As anticipation builds, the draw outcome will play a crucial role in shaping Indonesia’s chances and the overall competitive landscape.
