Manchester United Close in on Midfield Replacement as Casemiro Exit Nears

Manchester United are moving quickly to secure a long-term replacement for Casemiro after the Brazilian midfielder confirmed he will leave the club when his contract expires in June. His decision comes despite the team preparing for a return to the Champions League, leaving a major gap in midfield.

Casemiro's departure highlights a growing problem in United's engine room, where his experience and goal contributions have been crucial in recent Premier League matches. In his absence during recent games, the team has experimented with different combinations, including Mason Mount alongside Kobbie Mainoo, but the balance has not been fully restored.

Compounding the issue, another midfielder, Manuel Ugarte, is also expected to leave Old Trafford following an underwhelming spell. Club leadership is reportedly preparing for a significant rebuild in midfield, with as many as three new signings planned to reshape the squad for the upcoming season.

One of the main targets identified is Ederson from Atalanta, who is said to have agreed in principle to a move to England. Although interest from other European clubs existed, Manchester United are now considered the frontrunners, with negotiations over a transfer fee still to begin.

Ederson is valued at around €45 million and has built a strong reputation in Serie A for his defensive stability and all-round midfield presence. His performances have earned praise from respected football figures, and at 26 years old, he is seen as a natural candidate to take over the role left by Casemiro and become a key figure in United's midfield rebuild.
