Persib Hit by Massive AFC Punishment After Chaotic Clash Against Ratchaburi

Persib Bandung received a major setback after the Asian Football Confederation handed down heavy sanctions following incidents during their AFC Champions League 2 match against Ratchaburi FC. The ruling came near the end of the 2025/2026 season and added further disappointment for the Indonesian club.

The AFC Disciplinary and Ethics Committee found Persib responsible for multiple violations that occurred during the second leg of the round of 16 at Gelora Bandung Lautan Api Stadium in February 2026. The governing body concluded that the club failed to maintain order and proper security throughout the match.

Several supporter-related incidents became the focus of the investigation. Fans were reported to have lit flares and fireworks inside the stadium while also throwing objects onto the pitch. Items included broken seats, plastic bottles, cups, bags filled with liquid, and other debris that disrupted the game atmosphere.

The AFC also highlighted damage to stadium facilities, violent behavior, and verbal abuse aimed at the opposing team and match officials. In addition, Persib's organizing committee was criticized for poor crowd control and inadequate safety measures, including blocked stairways and evacuation routes inside the stadium.

As a result, Persib was fined USD 200,000, which is equal to around Rp3.5 billion, and must settle the payment within 30 days. The club was also ordered to play its next AFC home match in Indonesia behind closed doors. A second match without spectators has been suspended for two years and could be enforced if similar incidents happen again during the probation period.
