Feyenoord Part Ways with Robin van Persie After Trophyless Season
Robin van Persie has been dismissed from his role as Feyenoord head coach following a disappointing season that ended without any silverware. Despite guiding the team to a second-place league finish, the club decided to end his tenure due to underperformance compared to their title rivals.
His spell in charge lasted less than two seasons, even though his contract was originally set to run until 2027. The decision came after Feyenoord fell significantly behind league champions PSV, finishing 19 points adrift.
The team's form notably declined during the middle of the season, with inconsistent results and internal tensions reportedly affecting the squad. Frequent tactical changes and disagreements with players were also seen as factors behind the club's struggles.
A recent restructuring in the club's management contributed to the decision, as new leadership began evaluating the team's long-term direction. Feyenoord also failed to win any trophies, exiting early in domestic cup competition and underperforming in European matches.
Van Persie leaves with a modest win rate after a short managerial career that began with Heerenveen before returning to Feyenoord. Despite his legendary playing career at Arsenal and Manchester United, his early steps in management have yet to match his success on the pitch.
