Canada Earn First-Ever World Cup Point with Historic Draw

In the opening match of Group B at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, co-hosts Canada drew 1-1 with Bosnia and Herzegovina at home, ending their six-match losing streak in World Cup history and earning their first-ever World Cup point.
Before the 2026 tournament, Canada had participated in the World Cup twice, in 1986 and 2022. On both occasions, they lost all three group-stage matches, recording six consecutive defeats overall while scoring just two goals and conceding 12.
Making their World Cup debut as hosts this time, Canada fell behind in their opening group-stage match but fought back through a goal from veteran striker Cyle Larin to secure a 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina. The result not only prevented them from setting an unwanted record of seven consecutive World Cup defeats but also earned the nation its first-ever point in the competition.
For Bosnia and Herzegovina, who returned to the World Cup after a 12-year absence, their first match back ended in a disappointing draw.
