Torino Entrusts Ignazio Abate With Long-Term Vision as New Head Coach
Torino have officially confirmed the appointment of Ignazio Abate as their new head coach, marking the beginning of a long-term project in Serie A. The former AC Milan defender has agreed to a contract that runs until June 2028, signaling strong confidence from the club in his leadership.
The club introduced Abate as part of their new sporting direction, with the agreement set to take effect from July 2026. At 39 years old, he steps into one of the most demanding coaching roles in Italian football after quickly rising through the managerial ranks.
Abate’s coaching credentials were strengthened during his time at Juve Stabia, where he led the team through a strong Serie B campaign in the 2025-26 season. His side reached the promotion play-off semi-finals before being eliminated by Monza, who eventually secured promotion to Serie A.
As a player, Abate had a solid career representing several notable Italian clubs, including AC Milan, Napoli, Empoli, and Torino. His previous spell at Torino during the 2008-09 season saw him contribute both experience and goals, making his return to the club especially symbolic.
Torino had initially considered other candidates for the managerial role, but Abate ultimately emerged as their preferred choice. With his blend of playing experience and early coaching success, the club hopes he can guide them toward greater stability and competitive progress in the coming seasons.
