In the opening round of the FIFA World Cup group stage, Belgium drew 1-1 with Egypt. Egypt took the lead in the first half when Mohamed Salah set up Ashour for the opening goal. In the second half, Belgium equalized thanks to an own goal by Mohamed Hany. The match ended with Belgium and Egypt sharing the points in a 1-1 draw.
