A dramatic 0-0 draw between Belgium and Iran at SoFi Stadium left both sides frustrated in Group G, with Iran moving top on goals scored and Belgium second. New Zealand and Egypt, yet to play their second fixtures, sit third and fourth on one point each.

Beiranvand the Difference
Iran goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand was the undisputed man of the match, producing a string of outstanding saves to deny Belgium throughout. He kept out efforts from Tielemans, De Bruyne, and Doku in what proved an inspired individual display. Belgium created the clearer chances but were repeatedly thwarted by the Iranian shot-stopper.

Ngoyi Sees Red
The pivotal moment came in the 66th minute when Belgian midfielder Ngoyi, having already given away possession with a misplaced back-pass, brought down Taremi and was shown a straight red card. Belgium were forced to see out the final 25 minutes with ten men.

Taremi Goal Ruled Out
Iran had their own moment of controversy in the 25th minute when Taremi turned and fired low into the net from a Hajisafi free kick, only for VAR to intervene and rule the goal out for offside.

Tielemans fired straight at Beiranvand from inside the box in the 22nd minute, and De Bruyne's corner in the 50th minute was met by Saelemaekers, whose volley struck the side netting. Doku's follow-up in the 59th minute was also gathered comfortably by Beiranvand.

Group G Standings
Iran lead the group on two points by virtue of goals scored, with Belgium second. New Zealand and Egypt are level on one point in third and fourth respectively, and are yet to play their second matches.
