Fans relieved after “Shakira kissing incident” turns out to be a sweet moment with her son at World Cup match

According to the Daily Mail, football fans have breathed a sigh of relief after clarifying a “kissing incident” involving Shakira in the stands. Some viewers following the World Cup were initially concerned after seeing what appeared to be an awkward moment involving the singer in the VIP section, but later discovered it was actually a warm family interaction.

The 49-year-old Colombian superstar made a surprise appearance on Monday at the stadium in Dallas to watch Lionel Messi and Argentina defeat Austria 2–0 in a Group J match. Shakira has co-recorded the official 2026 World Cup song with rapper Burna Boy. Broadcast cameras captured her watching the game from a luxury suite at the stadium, which is normally home to the Dallas Cowboys. When she appeared on the stadium big screen, she received an enthusiastic reaction from fans in attendance and was warmly welcomed.

However, some viewers watching from home expressed concern on social media after seeing a particular moment involving Shakira. In the broadcast footage, the person seated to her left leaned over, wrapped an arm around her, and kissed her on the cheek. A caption shared on social media read: “During the World Cup match between Argentina and Austria, Shakira received lots of love from her son Milan.” Some fans were surprised by the moment, with a few suggesting she did not seem comfortable and appeared somewhat uneasy.

One fan account posted the clip asking: “Is Shakira okay?” Another questioned: “Who is this person trying to kiss Shakira?”

However, fans had nothing to worry about. The “admirer” was actually her son, simply showing affection toward his famous mother. The singer of Waka Waka attended the match with her two sons, Milan, 13, and Sasha, 11. Their father is Shakira’s former partner, ex-Barcelona and Spain star Gerard Piqué.

Milan wore a black polo shirt and a white cap, which partially covered his face, leading to the confusion. In the footage, he excitedly leaned over his mother and even appeared to gently pull her hair, which may have contributed to Shakira’s seemingly uncomfortable reaction.

Both of Shakira’s sons were born in Barcelona, where she lived during Piqué’s football career. Shakira and Piqué met while filming the music video for Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) ahead of the 2010 World Cup. After an 11-year relationship, they split in June 2022. Following their breakup, there were reports suggesting Piqué had been unfaithful and that he later began a relationship with his current partner, Clara Chía Martí.

In January 2023, Shakira released the viral diss track BZRP Music Sessions #53, whose lyrics heavily referenced the breakup. After the separation, Shakira and Piqué agreed on a custody arrangement, and she later moved to Miami with their two sons.

Piqué retired in November 2022 at the age of 35 and did not feature in this World Cup cycle with Spain. Meanwhile, Shakira has become one of the standout figures of the tournament. On June 11, she performed at the opening ceremony in Mexico City, officially kicking off the 2026 World Cup.

Shakira and Burna Boy performed the official 2026 FIFA World Cup song, Dai Dai, as the closing act of the ceremony. In a vibrant, colourful performance, hundreds of dancers joined her on the pitch. Wearing a neon yellow jumpsuit and a white skirt, Shakira stood out as she delivered her signature hip movements, drawing huge cheers from the crowd.

She also performed alongside a traditional Mexican mariachi band, energising the stadium with her iconic dance style and high-energy performance. At the centre of the stage, a giant golden replica of the World Cup trophy rose from the ground as dancers in bright costumes emerged around it. The elaborate show also featured performances by Alejandro Fernández, Belinda, Danna Paola, J Balvin, Lila Downs, Los Ángeles Azules, Maná, and Thalía, all contributing to the official FIFA World Cup album.
