England Held to Goalless Draw by Ghana in Toothless Boston Stalemate

England Held to Goalless Draw by Ghana in Toothless Boston Stalemate
England failed to break down a resolute Ghana side, settling for a 0-0 draw at Gillette Stadium in Boston in their Group L second fixture. Both sides remain level on four points, with England leading on goal difference. Panama are third and Croatia fourth. The match made unwanted history as the only first half of this World Cup in which neither side registered a single shot on target across six England attempts and zero from Ghana.

England Dominate but Create Little
England controlled the ball and had six attempts in the first half alone, yet produced nothing to trouble Ghana goalkeeper Ati-Zigi. Declan Rice came closest in the 14th minute, firing over the bar from a free kick, while Bellingham had an effort blocked inside the box in the 33rd minute. Kane saw a shot smothered late in the first half after a clever through ball from Guehi, and Saka cut inside on the right in the 86th minute only to see his effort comfortably saved.

Ghana Threaten on the Counter
Ghana's best moment came early, with Williams through on goal in the fifth minute only for the linesman to flag for offside. Senaah also caused problems midway through the second half, cutting into the box and testing the England defence with an effort that was blocked by Spence.

Second Half Pressure Yields Nothing
England pushed harder after the break, with Madueke and Gordon both going close in the 57th minute, and Anderson heading wide from a Rice free kick in the 61st. Despite sustained pressure, Ghana's backline held firm throughout and England's attacking intent never translated into clear-cut chances.

Group L Standings
England and Ghana are level on four points, separated only by goal difference with England on top. Panama are third and Croatia fourth, both with their second fixtures still to play.
