Enzo Maresca Returns to Manchester City as Head Coach to Lead a New Era

Manchester City has officially appointed Enzo Maresca as its new manager, marking his third spell with the club in a different capacity. The Italian coach has signed a three-year contract that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2029, as the club begins a new chapter following a major managerial transition.

Maresca is no stranger to Manchester City after previously leading the Elite Development Squad during the 2020/21 season before serving as Pep Guardiola's assistant with the first team between 2022 and 2023. During those periods, he contributed to multiple trophies, including a youth league title, the Premier League, the FA Cup, and the UEFA Champions League.

The club's leadership believes Maresca is well suited to continue City's long-term vision thanks to his tactical approach, ambition, and understanding of the club's culture. His familiarity with the organization and its expectations is viewed as a significant advantage as he steps into the top managerial role.

Before returning to Manchester, Maresca enjoyed a successful spell at Chelsea, where he guided the club to victories in the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2025. His time at Stamford Bridge ended at the beginning of 2026 after disagreements with the club's board, paving the way for his return to City.

Maresca now takes over from Pep Guardiola, whose remarkable decade in charge brought 20 major trophies and established Manchester City as one of Europe's dominant clubs. The new manager is expected to build on that legacy while introducing his own ideas as he aims to deliver attractive football and continued success in the years ahead.
