PSG Close In on Lucas Digne as Experienced Left-Back Set for Paris Return

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly on the verge of signing Aston Villa left-back Lucas Digne after reaching a verbal agreement with the French international. The move is expected to be completed after the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the 32-year-old is currently representing France.

According to reports, PSG have informed Aston Villa of their intention to activate Digne's release clause, which is believed to be worth less than €10 million. If finalized, the transfer would mark another significant departure for Villa this summer following the expected exit of midfielder Youri Tielemans.

The French champions are eager to strengthen the left side of their defense by adding experienced cover for Nuno Mendes. Injuries limited Mendes at times last season, exposing the need for greater depth. Lucas Hernandez was used as an alternative but struggled to convince, prompting the club to search for a more reliable option.

Digne arrives with a wealth of Premier League and international experience. Since joining Aston Villa from Everton in 2022, he has become a consistent performer, making more than 180 appearances while contributing both defensively and offensively. His recent performances have also helped him secure the first-choice left-back role for the French national team.

A return to Paris would bring Digne back to a club where he previously enjoyed domestic success before leaving for Barcelona in 2016. His defensive discipline, accurate crossing, and set-piece quality make him a valuable addition for Luis Enrique, who hopes the veteran defender can provide depth and competition as PSG pursue more silverware next season.
