Federico Barba Returns to Italy as Palermo Secure Former Persib Defender
Federico Barba has quickly found a new chapter in his career after leaving Persib Bandung, officially signing with Italian Serie B side Palermo. The experienced center-back returns to his home country following a successful spell in Indonesia, where he established himself as one of Persib's most reliable defenders.
Palermo confirmed the signing on Wednesday, announcing that the 32-year-old has agreed to a one-year contract. The move marks Barba's return to Italian football after spending time abroad, including an impressive season with the Indonesian champions.
The club completed the transfer after Barba became a free agent following the end of his contract with Persib. Palermo also scheduled his official introduction shortly after he joined the squad, signaling their confidence in his ability to strengthen the team's defensive lineup ahead of the new campaign.
Barba received a warm welcome from Palermo's management, including representatives of City Football Group and the club's leadership. His arrival reflects Palermo's ambition to add experienced players as they prepare for another competitive season in Serie B.
During the 2025-26 season, Barba played a vital role in Persib Bandung's success. He made 35 appearances across all competitions, contributed five goals and two assists, and helped the club secure the Super League title with consistently strong performances at the heart of the defense.
