John Stones Joins Inter Milan After Decade at Manchester City
John Stones has officially joined Inter Milan, bringing an end to his successful 10-year spell at Manchester City. The experienced England defender signed a two-year contract with the Serie A champions after becoming a free agent when his City deal expired at the end of last season.
Despite attracting interest from several Premier League clubs, Stones chose to continue his career in Italy under Inter head coach Cristian Chivu. The move marks the first time the 32-year-old will play outside England, opening a new chapter in one of Europe's top leagues.
Stones arrived at Manchester City from Everton in 2016 and went on to become one of the club's most reliable defenders. Over 295 appearances, he helped City win 17 major trophies, including six Premier League titles and the club's historic first UEFA Champions League triumph.
On the international stage, Stones also remained a key figure for England at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. His leadership and experience played an important role as the Three Lions secured a third-place finish, their best World Cup result outside England.
Inter have made Stones their fourth signing of the 2026 summer transfer window, following the arrivals of Ivan Provedel, Aleksandar Stankovic, and former Manchester City teammate Manuel Akanji. The club hopes the veteran defender will strengthen its back line and return to his best after injuries disrupted the final stages of his career at City, with a potential Serie A debut against Monza on August 22.
