Five Key Changes Indonesia Could Make for Must-Win Clash Against Singapore

Indonesia are expected to make several adjustments ahead of their crucial 2026 AFF Cup group-stage match against Singapore after suffering a heavy 3-0 defeat to Vietnam. The loss exposed weaknesses across the squad and left John Herdman with little room for error, as only a victory will secure a place in the semifinals.

One of the biggest priorities is improving the team's organization while maintaining the three-man defensive system. Rather than abandoning the formation, Indonesia must become more disciplined when transitioning from attack to defense, as gaps at the back were repeatedly exploited by Vietnam's aggressive pressing.

Changes in personnel are also likely, especially in defense and goal. Goalkeeper Nadeo Argawinata could be replaced after a series of costly positioning mistakes, while adjustments in central defense are under consideration as Jordi Amat struggled and Rizky Ridho endured a difficult outing despite remaining an important option.

Further rotation is expected in attack, where Ragnar Oratmangoen may be rested after showing signs of fatigue. Several attacking players, including Beckham Putra, Eliano Reijnders, Saddil Ramdani, Egy Maulana Vikri, and Rizky Eka Pratama, are available to provide fresh energy, while Mitchell Baker is expected to continue leading the front line.

The midfield may also receive a fresh look, although Indonesia's limited squad depth makes Ivar Jenner and Marc Klok the most reliable pairing. If Herdman decides to take a more adventurous approach, alternatives such as Rayhan Hannan, Kadek Agung, or a more advanced role for Jordi Amat could offer a different tactical balance against Singapore.
