Bali United Close in on John Herdman's Son to Complete Foreign Player Line-Up

Bali United are reportedly closing in on Canadian attacking midfielder Jay Herdman as they prepare for the 2026/2027 Super League season. The move would fill the final foreign-player slot left vacant following the departure of Jordy Bruijn. Herdman, who is the son of Indonesia national team coach John Herdman, could become the latest addition to Bali United's squad as the club finalizes its preparations for the new campaign.

The transfer emerged after Canadian Premier League side Cavalry FC confirmed Jay Herdman's departure on August 17, although the club did not disclose the financial details of the deal. Bali United have been identified as the destination for the 22-year-old midfielder, but the Indonesian club has yet to formally announce the transfer or reveal the length of his expected contract.

Herdman previously joined Cavalry on loan from Vancouver Whitecaps FC in 2024 before establishing himself as an important part of the Canadian side. He made 36 appearances across all competitions and played a role in Cavalry's successful run to the 2024 CPL title. His move to Indonesia would mark a new chapter in his career and give Bali United an attacking option with experience outside his home country.

The reported arrival also fits Bali United's efforts to complete their foreign-player quota after ending their partnership with Bruijn. The Dutch midfielder spent the previous season with the club before the two sides agreed to part ways. Cavalry have since registered James McGlinchey in their senior squad as Herdman moves on, further confirming that the Canadian midfielder is no longer part of their plans.

With the new Super League season approaching, Jay Herdman could become the final piece of Bali United's foreign-player puzzle. His attacking qualities and previous experience in a competitive league could provide additional depth to the Serdadu Tridatu squad. The club's official announcement is still awaited, particularly regarding the transfer fee and contract terms, but his arrival could add an intriguing storyline given his connection to Indonesia's national team coach.
