Barcelona Complete Major Rodri Coup as Manchester City Midfielder Signs Until 2030

Barcelona have officially completed the signing of Spanish midfielder Rodri from Manchester City, securing one of the biggest transfers of the summer. The 30-year-old World Cup winner has agreed to a four-year contract with the Catalan club, keeping him at Camp Nou until June 2030. His arrival gives Barcelona an experienced presence in the heart of midfield as they prepare for the new season.

Rodri had previously been strongly linked with Real Madrid, who were reportedly pushing to bring the 2024 Ballon d'Or winner back to Spain. Barcelona's entry into the race changed the situation dramatically, with the Spain captain ultimately choosing a move to the Blaugrana. His decision added further intrigue to a transfer battle involving two of Spain's biggest clubs.

Negotiations between Barcelona and Manchester City were reportedly difficult and took considerable time before the two clubs finally reached an agreement. Barcelona are set to pay a total package worth €76.5 million, consisting of a €60 million guaranteed fee, €11.5 million in achievable bonuses and a further €5 million tied to more difficult conditions.

Rodri arrived in Barcelona on Monday evening before completing his medical and signing his contract the following day. He is expected to take the number 16 shirt, which was previously worn by Fermin Lopez before the midfielder switched to number 7 following Ferran Torres' departure. The move represents another major addition to Barcelona's squad and significantly strengthens their midfield options.

Despite completing the transfer, Rodri will not make his Barcelona debut in the upcoming Joan Gamper Trophy match. The midfielder has only recently returned from minor back surgery and has not yet trained with his new teammates. Barcelona are therefore expected to ease him into competitive action as he works toward full fitness and adapts to his new surroundings.
