Liam Delap Joins Nottingham Forest in Record-Breaking £50 Million Transfer
Liam Delap has officially completed his move from Chelsea to Nottingham Forest during the summer 2026 transfer window. The 23-year-old striker has signed a five-year contract running until June 2031, with the deal reportedly worth up to £50 million. Forest will pay an initial £45 million, with another £5 million potentially coming through performance-related bonuses, making Delap the most expensive signing in the club’s history.
The transfer marks Delap’s third Premier League club after previous spells with Ipswich Town and Chelsea. He enjoyed an impressive period at Ipswich, scoring 12 goals before moving to Chelsea for around £30 million in the summer of 2025. However, his first season at Stamford Bridge proved difficult, with limited opportunities preventing him from maintaining the scoring form he had shown at Ipswich.
Delap made 47 appearances across all competitions for Chelsea and was part of the squad that won the Club World Cup. In the Premier League, however, he started only 12 matches during the 2025-26 campaign and accumulated 1,102 minutes on the pitch. His goal return also dropped considerably, with just one Premier League goal and three goals across all competitions throughout the season.
Forest’s decision to invest heavily in Delap reflects their belief that the young forward can rediscover his best form at the City Ground. The £50 million package surpasses the previous club transfer record of £37.5 million, which was set when Forest signed Omari Hutchinson from Ipswich in August of the previous year. The long-term contract also underlines the club’s confidence in Delap becoming an important part of their future plans.
For Delap, the move offers an opportunity to play a more prominent role and rebuild his momentum in the Premier League. Forest are hoping his physical presence, finishing ability, and previous experience at Ipswich can strengthen their attack as they aim to compete higher up the league table. With significant financial investment behind the deal, expectations will be high for Delap to deliver goals and establish himself as one of Forest’s key players.
