VfL Osnabruck welcome Bayern Munich to Bremer Brücke in the first round of the DFB-Pokal, with the Bundesliga champions looking to avoid an early cup upset. Osnabruck have endured a difficult start to their 2. Bundesliga campaign, while Bayern have opened the 2026-27 season in outstanding form. 

Team Analysis:
Osnabruck have made a mixed start to their campaign, losing two of their first three 2. Bundesliga matches and currently sitting 14th with three points. Their defensive record is also a concern, with Timo Schultz's side keeping just one clean sheet in their last seven competitive matches. 

The hosts will also be hoping to avoid another early DFB-Pokal exit after being eliminated in the first round in each of the previous two seasons. Osnabruck have never beaten Bayern in their previous two meetings, making this another extremely difficult challenge.

Playing at Bremer Brücke could provide some encouragement, but Osnabruck have failed to win either of their two home matches this season. Their limited attacking output will also be a major concern against a Bayern side capable of scoring heavily.

Bayern Munich, meanwhile, have made a spectacular start to the new season. Vincent Kompany's side opened their Bundesliga campaign with a 5-1 victory over Stuttgart after already beating Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in the German Super Cup. 

The reigning DFB-Pokal champions have now gone 20 domestic matches without defeat, winning 17 of those games. Their away record is equally impressive, with Bayern unbeaten in their last 32 domestic away matches and scoring at least three goals in 21 of those fixtures. 

Bayern are expected to dominate possession and create a large number of chances. Even with rotation likely, their squad depth gives them a huge advantage over their second-tier opponents.

Player Situation:
Osnabruck are expected to field a strong lineup despite their league commitments, as a match against Bayern represents a rare opportunity for the club. Robin Fabinski, Jannik Muller and Niklas Wiemann are expected to form part of the defensive setup, while Leonhard Munst could feature in an attacking midfield role. 

The hosts will need their defensive players to produce an almost perfect performance if they are to prevent Bayern from creating numerous scoring opportunities.

Bayern are expected to rotate several players after their impressive Bundesliga victory over Stuttgart. Ismael Saibari, Lennart Karl and Arijon Ibrahimovic could all be given opportunities in attack, while Tom Bischof is likely to feature in midfield. 

Jonas Urbig is expected to replace Manuel Neuer in goal, while Jonathan Tah and Hiroki Ito could provide experience in defence. Even if Kompany makes significant changes, Bayern's bench should contain enough quality to change the game if necessary.

Result Prediction:
Osnabruck face an extremely difficult task against the reigning German champions. Their poor defensive record and limited home form are particularly concerning when facing a Bayern side that has already scored seven goals in its first two competitive victories this season.

Bayern's excellent away record and enormous squad depth mean that rotation should not significantly reduce their advantage. Osnabruck may attempt to defend deep and make the game difficult, but maintaining that level of concentration for 90 minutes will be a major challenge.

The hosts could potentially find a consolation goal in front of their home supporters, but Bayern should have far too much attacking quality and are likely to progress comfortably.
