AC Milan Revive Goncalo Inacio Pursuit Ahead of January Window

AC Milan are reportedly preparing another move for Goncalo Inacio as they look to strengthen Ruben Amorim’s defensive options during the January transfer window. The Portuguese centre-back remains a priority for the Milan hierarchy, while the club is also working on a new contract for Strahinja Pavlovic.

Milan’s defensive structure has reportedly not yet fully adapted to Amorim’s tactical demands. Several players are still adjusting after working under Massimiliano Allegri last season, when the team operated with a deeper defensive approach that differs from Amorim’s preference for a higher line.

The contrast in player profiles has also become an important factor in Milan’s planning. Matteo Gabbia and Koni De Winter are considered more comfortable with positioning-based defending, while Amorim is looking for defenders better suited to maintaining a high defensive line and supporting his tactical system.

Milan had already attempted to sign Inacio during the summer, with club owner Gerry Cardinale reportedly negotiating with Sporting CP until the final stages of the transfer window. The move ultimately collapsed because Sporting were unable to secure a suitable replacement, but discussions between the two clubs are understood to have continued ahead of January.

Milan are reportedly optimistic about completing a deal for Inacio in the region of €30 million to €35 million. At the same time, the club is close to extending Pavlovic’s contract until 2031 with improved financial terms, reflecting his performances this season, while the Serbian defender is reportedly prepared to remain at San Siro despite interest from several Premier League clubs.
