Borussia Mönchengladbach Set to Appoint Alexander Blessin as New Head Coach

Borussia Mönchengladbach are reportedly close to appointing Alexander Blessin as their new head coach following the dismissal of Eugen Polanski. According to Sky Germany, Blessin has already reached a verbal agreement with the club’s hierarchy, with only the final details of his contract still needing to be settled.

Gladbach’s sporting director Rouven Schröder sees Blessin as a coach capable of helping the club recover from a difficult start to the 2026/27 campaign. His communication with players, structured approach, and clear football philosophy are among the qualities that have reportedly convinced the club to move forward with the German coach.

The need for a change has become increasingly urgent after Gladbach suffered four consecutive Bundesliga defeats. Kevin Diks and his teammates currently sit at the bottom of the table, while the team has conceded 16 goals, leaving their defense among the weakest in the competition so far this season.

If the final contract details are completed as expected, Blessin could be officially announced as Gladbach’s new head coach during the current week. The timing would give him a valuable opportunity to work with the squad during the international break in late September and early October.

Blessin would then have several weeks to assess the team and address its defensive problems before his first competitive assignment.
