Alberto Gilardino Set for Emotional Parma Return as New Head Coach

Alberto Gilardino is reportedly on the verge of returning to Parma, this time in the dugout as the club’s new head coach. The former Italy international has reached an agreement with the Serie A side and is expected to replace Carlos Cuesta, who recently left his position following a disappointing start to the new campaign. Gilardino’s return would mark a new chapter in his long-standing connection with the club.

Parma and Cuesta parted ways amicably after the team struggled to build momentum during the opening weeks of the season. Cuesta had returned to the club’s training ground for one final farewell with the players before clearing out his locker. His departure came after Parma collected just four points from their first five Serie A matches, with their only victory coming against Genoa in the previous league round.

According to reports from several Italian sports outlets, Gilardino has already agreed to take charge at Stadio Tardini and is expected to complete the formalities of his appointment soon. However, before putting pen to paper, the former striker must first resolve his contractual situation with Pisa. Gilardino was dismissed by the club in February but remains tied to them contractually, making the termination of that agreement the final step before his Parma return can be completed.

Gilardino is no stranger to Parma, having spent three productive seasons at the club between 2002 and 2005. He scored 56 goals in 116 appearances before earning a move to AC Milan. His career also included international success with Italy, most notably being part of the squad that won the 2006 FIFA World Cup. His experience at both club and international level could now become an important asset as he takes on the challenge of managing Parma.

The appointment would give Gilardino an opportunity to reconnect with a club that played a major role in his development as a player.
