Barcelona’s Deco Clear-Out Plan Nears €100M in Player Sales as Summer Window Accelerates

Barcelona’s Deco Clear-Out Plan Nears €100M in Player Sales as Summer Window Accelerates

Barcelona sporting director Deco’s clear-out plan has accelerated significantly, with the club now approaching €100 million in revenue generated through player sales.

Barcelona’s strategy is not only focused on bringing in new signings. While Deco is working with Hansi Flick to build the squad, the club’s sporting management is also pushing forward with another equally important task: removing players who are not part of the plans and maximizing transfer income.

The objectives are twofold: first, to generate revenue through sales; second, to reduce the wage bill and create space within the squad. Over the past few weeks, Barcelona have accelerated several deals, increasing optimism ahead of the final stages of the summer transfer window.

The departure of Ferran Torres has become the biggest financial operation of the summer. The forward joined Paris Saint-Germain for a fee close to €50 million, becoming one of Barcelona’s most significant sales in recent years.

Ansu Fati has also officially left the club, joining AS Monaco. Monaco activated a purchase option worth close to €11 million, while Barcelona retained a percentage of any future transfer fee.

One of the most notable recent moves involved Jofre Torrents. What was initially expected to be a loan deal eventually became a permanent transfer to Ajax, with the total value of the deal reaching around €6 million including add-ons. Barcelona are aware of the full-back’s potential and have secured a 50% sell-on clause for any future transfer.

Iñaki Peña has also departed, moving to Panathinaikos for around €3 million. Meanwhile, Dani Rodríguez joined Dinamo Zagreb for €1.5 million, with Barcelona once again retaining future transfer rights and a buy-back option.

Another profitable operation came from a player no longer at the club. Bielhili previously moved from Mallorca to Club Brugge, and the Belgian side activated his €12 million release clause. Barcelona retained 40% of his economic rights, earning approximately €4.8 million from the deal.

This highlights the importance of Barcelona’s strategy of keeping future sell-on percentages for academy graduates. Even after players leave the club, future transfers can still generate additional income for Barcelona.

However, the clear-out plan is far from complete. Deco still has several pending tasks, with some departures already in the final stages.

The exit of 19-year-old midfielder Tommy Marques is progressing well. He has reached an agreement with the club and is set to join Braga for €12 million (€10 million guaranteed plus €2 million in add-ons). Barcelona have also included protection mechanisms in the deal to safeguard their interests.

Taking all operations into account, Barcelona’s clear-out strategy — including direct sales and previously retained percentages from former players — has generated close to €100 million in revenue. This figure could continue to rise in the coming weeks as more departures are completed.

Several names remain to be resolved, including Guille Fernández, Toni Fernández, Héctor Fort, and Marc Casadó. The club’s priority is to find the best solution for each player: either a permanent transfer that brings in significant income or a loan move that guarantees playing time and helps maintain their market value.

In addition, some departures and loan deals have helped free up salary space, especially when new clubs take on part or all of a player’s wages.

Therefore, Deco’s clear-out plan is not merely a secondary aspect of Barcelona’s transfer strategy. It has become a key part of the club’s overall project — creating resources, freeing squad space, and providing greater financial flexibility during the final stages of the summer transfer window.
