Barcelona Plot Ambitious Move for Joao Pedro as Club Searches for Lewandowski's Successor
FC Barcelona are once again looking toward the Premier League as they prepare to strengthen their squad for next season. Despite ongoing financial challenges, the Catalan club remains determined to compete for elite talent and has identified Joao Pedro as one of their primary attacking targets. The Brazilian forward, currently playing for Chelsea FC, is believed to fit the profile Barcelona want for their next generation of attackers.
The club is preparing for major changes in the forward line as Robert Lewandowski is expected to leave in the near future. Sporting director Deco has reportedly made the search for a new central striker a top priority. Alongside Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid, Joao Pedro has emerged as one of the strongest candidates to lead Barcelona's attack in the coming years.
Barcelona's interest is driven by the player's modern style of play, which combines technical quality, physical strength, pressing intensity, and sharp finishing ability. The club believes those qualities have become increasingly visible during his time in English football. His age is also considered a major advantage, as Joao Pedro is still approaching the peak years of his career and is viewed as a player with significant room for development.
To complete the transfer, Barcelona are reportedly considering a strategy similar to the one used when they signed Raphinha in 2022 from Leeds United. At the time, Raphinha was already regarded as one of the Premier League's most dangerous wingers and an important figure for the Brazilian national team. Barcelona believe a similar sporting project and long-term vision could persuade Joao Pedro to choose Camp Nou despite interest from wealthier clubs.
The financial side of the deal, however, could become a major obstacle. Raphinha arrived in Spain for around £49 million, while Joao Pedro is expected to cost significantly more, with estimates ranging between £68 million and £85 million. Even so, Barcelona remain confident that the opportunity to become a central figure in one of football's biggest clubs could still make the project attractive for the Brazilian forward.
