Bali United Land Finland International Thomas Lam in Major Defensive Signing

Bali United have completed one of the most notable transfers ahead of the 2026/27 Liga 1 season by signing Finland international Thomas Lam. The experienced defender arrives after a career that has taken him through several European leagues and Australia, bringing valuable leadership and top-level experience to the Indonesian club.

Born in Amsterdam to Dutch and Finnish parents, Lam chose to represent Finland at international level and became a key figure for the national team. Standing at 188 centimeters, the versatile defender is primarily a center-back but is also capable of playing as a defensive midfielder, giving Bali United greater tactical flexibility.

Lam began his football journey in the Netherlands before joining AZ Alkmaar's academy, where he later made his professional breakthrough. He was part of the squad that won the 2012/13 KNVB Cup and was recognized as Finland's Most Promising Young Player in 2012 before continuing his career with clubs including PEC Zwolle and Nottingham Forest.

His career later included spells with CSKA Sofia, Melbourne City, and Apollon Limassol, allowing him to gain experience in multiple competitive environments. Across more than 400 professional appearances, Lam established a reputation as a dependable defender, while his international career reached its peak when he represented Finland at UEFA Euro 2020.

Bali United believe Lam's arrival will strengthen a defense that was identified as a priority for improvement following last season. With his extensive international background, winning mentality, and versatility, the Finnish defender is expected to play a significant role as the club aims to compete for top honors in the 2026/27 Liga 1 campaign.
