Ismael Bennacer Leaves AC Milan to Begin New Chapter with Al-Gharafa in Qatar
Ismael Bennacer has officially ended his time at AC Milan after both parties agreed to terminate his contract, allowing the Algerian midfielder to join Al-Gharafa in the Qatar Stars League. The move brings an early conclusion to a spell that was expected to last until 2027.
Reports about Bennacer's departure had circulated in Italy for several days before the agreement was finalized. Following the completion of the paperwork, transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reported that the 28-year-old was traveling to Qatar to complete his medical examination ahead of his new challenge.
Bennacer's career at Milan took a difficult turn after suffering a serious knee injury in May 2023. The setback significantly affected his form and limited his influence on the pitch. Loan spells with Olympique Marseille and GNK Dinamo Zagreb followed, but neither club decided to make his move permanent.
Despite the disappointing end to his Milan career, Bennacer leaves behind an impressive record. He played a key role in the club's Serie A title-winning campaign in 2022 and later helped secure the Italian Super Cup during the 2024/25 season. Across 178 appearances for the Rossoneri, he scored eight goals and contributed 12 assists.
Now joining Al-Gharafa as a free agent, Bennacer begins a fresh stage in his professional career. The move to Qatar offers him the opportunity to rebuild his confidence, regain top form, and make a strong impact after several challenging seasons marked by injuries and uncertainty.
