Barcelona Ready to Cover 90% of Marc-André ter Stegen's Wages to Complete Ajax Move
Barcelona remain determined to facilitate Marc-André ter Stegen's transfer to Ajax despite recent reports suggesting the deal had stalled. While negotiations encountered unexpected obstacles, the move is still considered highly achievable as both clubs continue working toward a final agreement.
The biggest challenge has been the financial structure of the transfer. Ajax are reportedly unable to match the goalkeeper's current salary, forcing Barcelona to consider covering a significant portion of his wages. According to reports, the Spanish club is prepared to pay around 90% of Ter Stegen's salary in order to make the deal financially viable.
Aside from the wage-sharing arrangement, only a few tax-related administrative issues are believed to be delaying the transfer. Ajax remain optimistic that these bureaucratic matters can be resolved within the coming days, allowing the German international to complete his move before the new season begins.
Ter Stegen's immediate future, however, has not yet been finalized. Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has included the experienced goalkeeper in the squad scheduled to travel to England for the club's preseason training camp. A key meeting between Flick and Ter Stegen is expected to determine whether the player joins the trip or stays behind to finalize his transfer.
If the goalkeeper decides to remain in Barcelona while negotiations continue, Flick is reportedly prepared to respect that decision. Should Ter Stegen travel with the team instead, he will continue to be treated as a full member of the squad and could feature in upcoming preseason matches. The training camp will also welcome back winger Raphinha, who returns after recovering from a hamstring injury suffered following the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
