Steven Benda Joins Nottingham Forest as Free-Agent Move Adds Goalkeeping Depth
Steven Benda has officially joined Nottingham Forest after leaving Fulham as a free agent, signing a one-year contract at the City Ground with an option for another season. The 27-year-old goalkeeper arrives as Forest look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new Premier League campaign. His arrival is expected to add greater depth and competition within the goalkeeping department.
Benda came through the Swansea City academy before spending the last three seasons with Fulham. His time at Craven Cottage was largely affected by limited opportunities for regular first-team football, although he gained valuable experience through loan spells during the 2025/26 campaign. He spent periods with Millwall and Feyenoord before his Fulham contract expired at the end of the season.
For Forest, Benda represents a practical addition without the need for a transfer fee. His experience is expected to raise competition among the club’s goalkeepers while maintaining high standards during daily training. The move also gives Benda an opportunity to revive his career and push for a more prominent role after struggling to establish himself as a regular at Fulham.
The signing is another step in Forest’s preparations under manager Oliver Glasner. Benda becomes the club’s third arrival ahead of the new season, following Xaver Schlager and Ousmane Diomande. With Premier League competition becoming increasingly demanding, Forest are continuing to build a squad capable of handling the physical and tactical challenges of a long campaign.
Benda’s one-year agreement, combined with the option to extend for another season, also gives Nottingham Forest flexibility over his future. The club can assess his performances and contribution throughout the campaign before deciding whether to continue the partnership. For the goalkeeper, meanwhile, the move provides a fresh opportunity to compete for playing time and demonstrate his ability at the highest level of English football.
