Indonesia's FIFA ASEAN Cup Squad Revealed: Rizky Ridho Out, Ricky Kambuaya Returns

Indonesia are reportedly set to bring a 26-man squad to the inaugural FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026, with John Herdman making several notable selections ahead of the tournament from September 24 to October 4. The biggest surprise is the absence of Rizky Ridho, who has been regarded as the second captain behind Jay Idzes. The squad has yet to be officially confirmed by the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI), with the leaked list first reported by senior football observer Ronny Pangemanan.

Ridho's omission is believed to be linked to his performances during the recent ASEAN Championship. The defender was reportedly involved in several mistakes during Indonesia's final matches against Vietnam and Singapore, which may have influenced Herdman's decision. His absence is not expected to end his international career, however, as he could still return for future FIFA Matchday fixtures after being given time to regain his confidence and focus on his club form.

Herdman's squad appears to place greater emphasis on players based overseas. Only 10 of the 26 selected players are currently competing in Indonesia, while several familiar names from abroad have been included. Ricky Kambuaya is among the notable returns, while Marselino Ferdinan, Dony Tri Pamungkas, Beckham Putra and goalkeeper Ernando Ari Sutaryadi are also included among the Indonesia-born players.

The squad features a strong defensive core led by Jay Idzes, with Elkan Baggott, Justin Hubner, Kevin Diks and Calvin Verdonk also selected. The midfield includes Ivar Jenner, Thom Haye, Joey Pelupessy and Kambuaya, while the attacking options feature Ragnar Oratmangoen, Ole Romeny, Marselino Ferdinan, Miliano Jonathans, Luke Vickery, Mitchell Baker and Adrian Wibowo.

Indonesia will host the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 and have been drawn in Group A alongside Malaysia, Singapore and Bangladesh. Group B consists of Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines and Pakistan. After failing to reach the semifinals of the 2026 ASEAN Championship, Indonesia will be looking to make a stronger impression on home soil and challenge for the title in the first edition of the new regional competition.
