Spain Commit to Luis de la Fuente Until 2032 After Historic Trophy Run

Luis de la Fuente will remain in charge of the Spain national team until 2032 after the Spanish Football Federation extended his contract. The decision provides long-term certainty for the coach, who has overseen one of the most successful periods in the history of La Roja.

De la Fuente took over as Spain head coach in December 2022 following Luis Enrique’s departure after the 2022 World Cup. Having previously spent nine years working with Spain’s youth teams, the 65-year-old quickly established himself at senior level and guided the national side to the 2022-23 Nations League title and Euro 2024.

His most significant achievement came at the 2026 World Cup, where Spain secured their second world title after defeating Argentina 1-0 following extra time in the final. The triumph added another major trophy to De la Fuente’s growing record and strengthened the federation’s confidence in his long-term project.

De la Fuente’s previous agreement was due to expire after Euro 2028, but the new arrangement extends his tenure by another four years. His extended spell will include the 2030 World Cup, which will be hosted partly in Spain, giving him the opportunity to lead the national team in a major tournament on home soil while attempting to defend its world title.

The contract extension reflects the RFEF’s desire for continuity and stability around the national team. With De la Fuente now committed through 2032, Spain can continue developing the project under a coach who has already delivered major international success and has extensive experience within the federation.
